SHOCKING–I KNOW!

The support of 93 members of my Help Courtney bring back the 80’s Prom! group on facebook couldn’t sway her.  And I thought my shiny royal blue lamé 80’s Prom dress was enough.  NO that’s not LAME!  It’s Lamé: Lamé is a shimmering material that is created by combining metallic fibers and natural or synthetic fibers into a woven or knit fabric. The high gloss finish of lamé makes it a very striking material that catches the smallest lights and seems to give a sense of movement to any garment created with the material.

You’re welcome for that tidbit of knowledge brought to you by wisegeek.com.

I’m thinking it would’ve totally fit with Denham Springs High School’s 2010 A Night in Las Vegas Prom.  Maybe next year.

I’ll spare you the picture of me in this dress circa 1980-something.  You’re welcome again. But if you just can’t stand the suspense you’ll find it on this post.

Surely Courtney was conflicted about her final decision to nix my dress because her dress just so happened to be royal blue.  And shimmery. Only not so much that dark sunglasses would be required for viewing. Not that dark sunglasses were required for my dress.

She did shine, though.

That dress almost didn’t happen.  In hindsight, I was a broken zipper away from possibly getting her to wear my dress.  Nothing like a prom dress catastrophe on the morning of prom.  I’m still wondering if it was a blessing that I had her go put the dress on just minutes before we were to head out to my niece’s birthday party or if I jinxed her.  The zipper was stuck.  Joedaddy gave it a tug and off the track it went.  And then it would not unzip.  Lots of yanking and tears and more tugging later and the dress was unzipped.  The eye hook flew across the room followed by more tears.  Yes, the tears flew across the room.

So I did what any mother in this situation would do. I posted an S.O.S. on facebook.  Several messages, texts and phone calls later and we were in business with a new zipper alteration.

And then after a hectic day of birthday party, hair and make-up appointments we picked up the altered dress.  With a new zipper. A BLACK zipper. But that’s all we’ll say about that because SHE LOOKED BEAUTIFUL!

But I totally should’ve pushed my dress on her first!

Little did we know that Dylan’s mom had a catastrophe of her own with the corsage.  There may or may not have been a mix up on her part with the colors asked for when ordering. Look, we moms are busy and tired and if you think I’m going to fault her for ordering a turquoise corsage when Dylan insisted that he told her royal blue you’re wrong!  Never you mind that they had ordered the tux with royal blue tie to match Courtney’s dress!  She’s a mom with two kids and the way this thing is going down is that it’s Dylan’s fault. (Sorry Dylan but it has to be this way!)

Our SuperMom totally came through after running around town to pick up various materials for the recreated corsage.

But I can’t help but think there never would’ve been a mix up had Courtney chosen my shimmery dress.

Oh well. There’s always next year’s senior prom. Who knows?
