Through the Eyes of a Soldier
Then the King will say to those on His right hand, ‘Come, you blessed of My Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world: for I was hungry and you gave Me food; I was thirsty and you gave Me drink; I was a stranger and you took Me in; I was naked and you clothed Me; I was sick and you visited Me; I was in prison and you came to Me.’ “Then the righteous will answer Him, saying, ‘Lord, when did we see You hungry and feed You, or thirsty and give You drink? When did we see You a stranger and take You in, or naked and clothe You? Or when did we see You sick, or in prison, and come to You?’ And the King will answer and say to them, ‘Assuredly, I say to you, inasmuch as you did it to one of the least of these My brethren, you did it to Me.’
~Matthew 25:34-40

Our Soldier, Trey
From a facebook post by my son-in-law, Trey, the following is his observation of life in Baghdad, Iraq. His account of life there has tugged at the hearts of many and hopefully caused us to not only appreciate the many blessings that surround us but also move out of our comfort zones in obedience to the Word and do our part as the Spirit of the Lord leads. *Edited with permission.
A small child in Iraq from Trey’s pictures on facebook
“Well I was sitting outside and thinking about Cammie and Gavin and looked up in the sky. All I saw was the moon. I miss home. There are no stars here. It’s kind of weird. And we complain about the stuff back at home and don’t realize the small stuff. We always overlook the small stuff. Even something like the stars in the night sky. There are a lot of people that don’t get to see what I’ve seen while I’m here. Like how the people live and how they will do anything to make a living for their family. Most people here only make $500 a month. It’s not much to us but it’s a lot to them when they have nothing. Most kids run around with no shoes and we complain because we don’t have enough shoes even though we probably have 20 pair of shoes sitting in the closet. Some kids barely have clothes. And yet we always want new clothes even though we have a closet full of clothes and some of which we don’t wear anymore because ‘it’s out of style’. There is no style here. They don’t care about what something looks like on them when they wear it. They’re just happy that they have something to put on their back. Their houses are not even houses. They’re sheds to us. And some of them have like five kids and live in something we would call a shed. But they don’t care because they have a roof over their head. And we complain that our houses are not big enough or the house is not pretty or the house is getting old so it’s time to move into a new one because the old one is out of style. We are always wanting bigger and better things but we don’t think about the people who have nothing or see how they live. The only way most people see how they live is through pictures or stuff on T.V. But it’s a whole different story when you see it in person. It will really make you realize what we have and appreciate what we have and not complain. Because there are a lot of people around our world that have nothing. We complain because we have to get up early to go to work. But they look forward to getting up because they know that they are getting up to go to work to make money to support their family.”

I’m so proud of you, Trey! It’s such an honor to be your mother-in-law as well as your mother, Cammie. Your sacrifices are not overlooked.
Please pray for Trey, his unit and all of our Soldiers as they sacrifice so much for the sake of the call.
