When my father first asked me to pen his stories of him growing up in the Tater Town area of Florida known today as Pensacola, I had a picture of the journey that would lie ahead. My grandiose vision  looked nothing close to the reality that unfolded. As a first time book author, I had little concept of setting deadlines. This project would be a labor of love for my father; that was all that mattered. My sister Ginger and I collected four plus hours of audio from Dad several years ago on his birthday. Little did I know, the setbacks that followed that day would contribute to the shaping of these stories.

While gathering Dad’s stories, a new season unfolded for me. This journey began the unveiling of grace in the greatest revelation I’ve had since my salvation at the age of eight. It couldn’t have been a more fitting time.

In our life’s stories, we find within our history and heritage the passing down of traditions and beliefs. We often embrace them as our own, like  family names. But only Truth withstands the test of time. When our stories are viewed through the lens of Truth and Grace, we then find great meaning. Whether we’re aware or not, we are all drawing lines. May our lines in the sand always point to Grace and Truth.

This Father’s Day, prepare to sit back and relax with this easy read. See a glimpse of the daily doses of humor that my siblings and I were accustomed to in our youth. Most of all, find the heart of Abba Father through my own father’s love, strengths, and even weaknesses.
