Happy Birthday, Big Mama!

How young are you?

If I knew what year you were born, I so would’ve posted it!

This is Big Mama.

Big Mama 001

This is Big Mama before she was Big.  Or even Mama.

You thought it was Courtney, didn’t you?

Now you know who Courtney looks like.

I know what you’re thinking—she’s not very big at all. But Big Mama is the name Cammie chose for her.  Big Mama is Cammie and Courtney’s grandmother.  Yes, that would make her my ex-mother-in-law, but I prefer to think of her as my daughters’ grandmother.  Or just Big Mama.  Because in spite of the fact that she is no longer my mother-in-law, she’s an important and very special part of my life—a BIG part.

Incidentally, I have been planning a blog post I shall title In-laws, Ex-laws and Outlaws. It’s been in the works (in my brain) for a very long time.  Now that I am a mother-in-law myself and Cammie has a new mother-in-law, the topic has taken on new depth.  But more on that later.  You’ll just have to stay tuned.

I find the title of Big Mama quite fitting and I’m certain God was behind Cammie’s choice.  While she is far from big, this woman has a big heart.  Not only does she see to the needs of her granddaughters, but she often thinks of Sophie.  On Sophie’s birthday or other holidays, she can always count on Big Mama to send her an E-card which we will invariably play over and over and over and over.

There are countless things that we could thank her for . . . school uniforms, the girls’ first cars, dance lessons, oil changes and gas for the girls’ first cars.  Lately, I’ve paid special attention to grandmothers.  I’m still having trouble wrapping my brain around this new role I will play.  But I know I’ll be prepared thanks to the examples He has given me.

Big Mama, I hope your day was especially blessed!  And I hope you’re ready to get bigger because next month you will take on a whole new role:

GREAT Big Mama!

That just cracks me up!

Happy Birthday!

We Love You!
