Welcome, Sean Afton Calvin McAlpine
Baby Sean made his debut on Thursday, January 22, 2009 at 10:39 p.m. He weighed in at a whopping 9 lb 0.4 oz and…
…21 in long. How’d he fit in that tummy?
Sean was welcomed by proud parents Mark and Alyssa and big brothers Ian and Brody.
Your a minority in your home, Alyssa. I bet right now you don’t mind. 😉
Alyssa is a dear friend of mine. I met her at her local children’s re-sale shop, Snickerdoodles. What started out as a visit to sell some of Sophie’s baby items has turned into close relationships. Since meeting Alyssa nearly a year and a half ago, I’ve not only found a place where my organizational skills lend a hand, but I’ve developed relationships with her and her mother, “Granny” Helen. They’re more than friends. They’re like family to me.
Alyssa endured quite an ordeal prior to Sean’s arrival. She had plans for a water birth at The Baton Rouge General. On Wednesday, January 21, Alyssa appeared to be in labor with contractions ranging around three minutes apart. She left her store around 3:00 p.m. with her Mom following. Later I would find that they made it as far as her apartment. She wasn’t quite ready to head to the hospital.
She is one tough cookie, people. I’ve seen what this woman can lift. The thought of no epidural alone nearly sent me into high stress. But Alyssa toughed it out through the night, monitoring her contractions as well as Sean’s movements. I’m tired just thinking about it. Every time I talked with Mrs. Helen Thursday I was certain Alyssa would be heading for the hospital.
Sometime Thursday evening her water broke. She made it to the hospital fully dilated. I simply cannot comprehend her having gone through full labor alone. I suddenly feel fragile. As if that were not enough, Alyssa’s situation became even more challenging. Sean had turned sideways. Did you see how long he is? Amazing. Needless to say, baby Sean would be delivered via c-section.
I’m still marvelling at the ordeal this women endured. But Baby Sean is healthy and clearly beautiful. He looks much like his big brothers. I have not yet had the pleasure of meeting him, but I’m sure I will soon.
So many people who frequent Snickerdoodles have called or stopped by to check in on baby Sean and Alyssa. She is clearly loved. Mrs. Helen and I are working with Holly Boze—another close friend of Alyssa and Mrs. Helen. I’ve grown kinda’ fond of her myself. 😉 Holly’s mother, Cheryl has also been a big help getting the store ready for Proud Mom to accommodate baby Sean.
If you just happen to live in the Baton Rouge area, we’d love for you to stop by and visit us at Snickerdoodles on Hwy 16 in Watson. Alyssa’s store is not just a re-sale store. She carries boutique items as well. And you’ll find some down-home people as well. It won’t be long before she’ll be back to greet you.
You may also want to visit Holly’s photography site: bozartia.com.
More pictures are coming soon so be watching…
All pictures are taken by Proud Dad, Mark McAlpine. Mark’s website—mnmids.com—is currently under construction. I’ll post a note when it is ready for viewing his beautiful baby boy.
Update: You can now click this link: www.mnmids.com/SCAM to view Sean’s pictures.
Congratulations, Alyssa and Mark! Take plenty of time to recover, Alyssa. I look forward to meeting that beatiful baby boy.
Welcome, baby Sean! Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee. Jeremiah 1:5
P.S. Note to Proud Granny: We will have pictures printed and posted in store soon.

Hi there would you mind sharing which blog platform you’re using?
I’m looking to start my own blog soon but I’m having a tough time making a decision between BlogEngine/Wordpress/B2evolution and Drupal.
The reason I ask is because your layout seems different
then most blogs and I’m looking for something unique.
P.S Sorry for being off-topic but I had to ask!
