Happy 17th Birthday!

On January 24, 1994, a future NFL Player was born.

Dear Matthew,

It’s hard to believe that it’s already been 17 years since you were born one year plus one day after your cousin, Courtney. When I look at that baby picture I think back to the day you were born and remember it as vividly as I do the days my own girls were born. I remember your baby shower and what a great time we had celebrating with your mom. I remember your mom and dad deciding that I would be Nanny and how much that meant to me. I would later be called that same name by four more nephews and one niece, many other children I would “Nanny-sit” and then my own grandson.

Nanny. The name that you called me first. Of course that makes you special to me but that’s not the only reason you’re special.

Matthew, there is only one you. You may be one of six named after Poppy. You may be one of three point six zillion Matthew James’ in the world. But there is only one you. Before you were born, He knew you (Jeremiah 1:5). And He has great plans for you (Jeremiah 29:11). I’ve watched you struggle from afar through the years. But He’s been right there. He knows everything there is to know about you. No obstacle is too great for Him. Seek Him in your youth (Ecclesiastes 12:1). Tap into the potential that He’s placed within you. Because His plans are far greater than any we could ever have for you.

We know your talent, your athletic ability. And sure, maybe one day you’ll play for the New Orleans Saints. But whether you do or don’t, if you’ll shine for Him however He chooses, you’ll always be a star. So abandon all to seek Him and shine like the stars.

I love you more than you could ever know. I pray this year will be a year of growth in Christ, of revelation of His will for your life. This year, may you truly grasp all that you are in Him. And shine like the stars!

YOU Dat!

{Yes, I totally high-jacked this picture from your facebook page.}

Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.

~Matthew 5:16~

{Yes, Ā I chose the same verse I chose for Courtney’s post. But hey, it’s from Matthew.}

I love you!
