Happy 2nd Birthday, Gavin James!

My precious grandson,

My world forever changed two years ago when you arrived. You have filled a special place in my heart.

I hadn’t realized until then just how much I missed not having a grandmother in my life as a child. I suppose all the love I was surrounded with helped fill that gap. I’ve had the best example for this role. Your Nana has been grandmother to so many and that includes some that are not her own. She is the example I hope to reflect.

Learning to walk in this new role has been especially interesting while parenting your now five-year-old aunt. Sometimes I worry that I’m not giving you all that you need from me. But I’m learning that loving you well is only possible through Christ. And that’s all I want for you and for my girls. To love well.

Nanny had big plans to spend time with you today but sickness got in the way. I can’t wait to see you soon and spend time with you. You are growing so very fast and I’ll bet people think you’re older than you are because you are such a big boy. I think you need a t-shirt that says “I’m only 2.”

Don’t grow up too fast. Keep on smiling that smile that Nana says makes even your nose smile. And above all else, know that the Lord has more for you than this old world could ever offer.

For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end. ~ Jeremiah 29:11

I love you more than Bunny Foo Foo loves bopping the field mice,

Nanny
